STELLAR EVOLUTION AND DYNAMICS IN THE OUTER HALO OF THE GALAXY will be held at ESO, Garchinq, AprilTopics of this 3-dayworkshop will include observational and theoretical aspects concerning chemical evolution and dynamics of field stars, globular clusters and planetary nebulae in the halo of our Galaxy and in halo systems­.

Dynamics of Stellar Systems. The research in our group focuses on understanding the dynamical structure and evolution of stellar systems. In nearby galaxies and stellar clusters, we look for the 'fossil records' of their formation by constructing realistic dynamical models that fit their photometric and spectroscopic observations in detail.

This book contains the proceedings of a workshop held at ESO headquarters in Garching inthe first meeting devoted entirely to Extra-galactic Planetary Nebulae. A wide range of topics is covered, from stellar and nebular astrophysics to galactic dynamics and galaxy clusters, making this volume a unique and timely reference of broad.

What is a galaxy stellar halo. The Galactic stellar halo consists of stars with orbits that extend to the outer regions of the galaxy. Some of these stars will continually orbit far from the galactic center, while others are on trajectories which bring them to various distances from the galactic center.

These stars have little to. The structure, kinematics and dynamics of the Galactic stellar halo are reviewed including evidence of substructure in the spatial distribution and kinematics of halo stars. Implications for galaxy formation theory are subsequently discussed; in particular it is argued that the observed kinematics of stars in the outer Galactic halo can be used.

CiteSeerX - Document Details (Isaac Councill, Lee Giles, Pradeep Teregowda): We develop a method for recovering the global density distribution of the ancient Galactic stellar halo prior to disk formation, based on the present orbits of metal-poor stars observed in the solar neighborhood.

The method relies on the adiabatic invariance of the action integrals of motion for the halo population. Stellar halos may hold some of the best preserved fossils of the formation history of galaxies. They are a natural product of the merging processes that probably take place during the assembly of a galaxy, and hence may well be the most ubiquitous component of galaxies, independently of their Hubble type.
