It is education which provides the rungs on the ladder of social mobility. (Brown ) As the above quotations illustrate, the role of education in reducing inequality and promoting social mobility is a favourite topic among politicians seeking to share their vision for a fair and just society. Oct 24,  · In her new book, “A Political Education: Black Politics and Education Reform in Chicago Since the s,” Todd-Breland details the city’s transformations in black politics, shifts in modes of education organizing, and the racial politics of education reform spanning the past 60 years.

The Politics of Education provides an introduction to both the political dimensions of schooling and the politics of recent educational reform debates. The book offers undergraduates and starting graduate students in education an understanding of numerous dimensions of the contested field of education, addressing questions of political economy, class, cultural politics, race, and gender. At the same time, however, references to the "discourses on politics" that occur in the Nicomachean Ethics suggest that the treatise as a whole ought to conclude with the discussion of education that occurs in Book VIII of the Politics, although it is not certain that Aristotle is referring to the Politics here.

Perspectives on Politics seeks to provide a space for broad and synthetic discussion within the political science profession and between the profession and the broader scholarly and reading publics. Such discussion necessarily draws on and contributes to the scholarship published in the more specialized journals that dominate our discipline. Note: Citations are based on reference standards.
